Wire & Cable
What is the difference between Cable and Wire?
The basic key difference between wires and cables is that a wire is a single conductor whereas a cable is a group of conductors. Although, these conductors are made of a common material- copper or aluminium. Usually, the wires are bare and are twisted. But, some of the wires are coated with thin PVC layer.
How many types of Wire and Cables are there? There are more than 20 different types of cables available today, designed for applications ranging from transmission to heavy industrial use. Some of the most commonly-used ones include: Non-Metallic Sheathed Cable : These cables are also known as non-metallic building wire or NM cables.
What are the two basic types of Wire? The two categories of single-conductor wires are solid and stranded (also called braided). Solid wire is rigid and conducts electricity better. Stranded wire consists of smaller wires braided together.
